Yasmin Mora weaves time. Born in San Jose, California, and splitting her life between Mexico City and Los Angeles, Mora works under the artist name Umaguma — at the intersection of ancestral craft and contemporary urgency, her tufted textiles pulling on threads of lineage, labor, and material transformation that stretch back through generations and continents.

From there, Mora has built a visual language rooted in 1930s Constructivism, of all things — an unlikely muse that gave her the structural vocabulary to let organic forms breathe inside rigid compositions. Her work doesn't just reference the handmade; it insists on it, using 100% naturally dyed Oaxacan wool and traditional materials as both medium and manifesto.

Her intuition is her superpower, she'll tell you plainly. It's what guides her through color, form, and the quiet politics of making things by hand in a world that outsources everything.

One more thing worth knowing: she's a twin. Which means somewhere out there, the universe made two.

At Lola, we are presenting Sea of Reflective Consciousness — a sprawling composition of intertwining forms that evokes multiple forces converging into one, its undulating shapes echoing the ebb and flow of energy, unity, and constant change.
