"I want viewers of my work to experience deeper emotion, like when you watch a film you love and want to watch on repeat."
Tori Pounds
Tori Pound's work delves into themes of time, loss, and re-creation. She expresses herself dynamically through paint on canvas and a variety of other mediums, including oil sticks, charcoal, felt, and stop motion. She challenges the boundaries of representation by mimicking the mundane aspects of her surroundings, blending expressive strokes with distorted, surreal forms to capture a sense of stillness or a “screenshot” of time. Cinematic influences and fantasy narratives are central to Pounds’ practice. She draws inspiration from found images or moments of everyday life, further distorting them to weave imagination with representation. This approach creates works that are simultaneously familiar and otherworldly, inviting viewers into ambiguous and emotionally charged narratives.
